A printed book has associated therewith certain electronically stored data in the form of images, sounds and/or supplemental text. Visual cues are provided to the reader of the book in the vicinity of text having associated electronically stored data. The electronic data is preferably stored in a remotely accessible server. A graphical user interface is provided for controlling access to the data stored in the server. When the reader of the book wishes to access data associated with a portion of the text, the reader uses a computer pointing device to select or manipulate indicia on the graphical user interface corresponding to the visual cue in the book. The server retrieves the appropriate data which is then presented to the reader as images, sounds and/or supplemental text on the reader's computer, thereby providing a multimedia enhanced reading experience.
Cette invention se rapporte à un livre imprimé auquel sont associées des données stockées par voie électronique sous la forme d'images, de sons et/ou de texte supplémentaire. Des indications visuelles sont fournies au lecteur du livre à proximité du texte auquel sont associées des données stockées par voie électronique. Ces données électroniques sont de préférence stockées dans un serveur accessible à distance. Une interface d'utilisateur graphique est fournie pour commander l'accès aux données stockées dans le serveur. Lorsqu'il désire accéder à des données associées à une partie du texte, le lecteur du livre utilise un pointeur informatique pour sélectionner ou manipuler des symboles sur l'interface d'utilisateur graphique correspondant à l'indication visuelle donnée dans le livre. Le serveur rapatrie les données appropriées, qui sont ensuite présentées au lecteur sous la forme d'images, de sons et/ou de texte supplémentaire sur l'ordinateur du lecteur, créant ainsi un mode de lecture amélioré par multimédia.
