A printed book (100) has associated therewith certain electronically stored data in the form of images, sounds and/or supplemental text. Visual cues are provided to the reader of the book in the vicinity of text having associated electronically stored data. The electronic data is preferably stored in a remotely accessible server. A graphical user interface is provided for controlling access to the data stored in the server. A password (104) contained in the printed book (100) may be required for access to the data. When the reader of the book wishes to access data associated with a portion of the text, the reader uses a computer pointing device to select or manipulate indicia on the graphical user interface corresponding to the visual cue in the book. The server retrieves the appropriate data which is then presented to the reader as images, sounds and/or supplemental text on the reader's computer, thereby providing a multimedia enhanced reading experience.
La présente invention concerne un livre imprimé (100) contenant certaines données stockées de manière électronique sous forme d'images, de sons et/ou de texte supplémentaire. Des repères visuels, destinés au lecteur du livre, sont placés au voisinage du texte auquel sont associées des données stockées électroniquement. Les données électroniques sont de préférence stockées dans un serveur accessible à distance. Une interface graphique utilisateur permet de commander l'accès aux données stockées dans le serveur. Un mot de passe (104) contenu dans le livre imprimé (100) peut être demandé afin d'accéder aux données. Lorsque le lecteur du livre souhaite accéder aux données associées à une partie du texte, il utilise un dispositif de pointage d'ordinateur en vue de sélectionner ou de manipuler des indices sur l'interface graphique utilisateur qui correspondent aux repères du livre. Le serveur extrait les données appropriées qui sont alors présentées au lecteur sous forme d'images, de sons et/ou de texte supplémentaire sur son ordinateur, permettant ainsi une expérience de lecture multimédia améliorée.
