14 ABSTRACT: A printer (1) comprising a paper-transport device by means of which paper transport tales place from a sealed entrance opening (19) in a housing (13, 15) of the printer (1) to the printing area (17) and from the printing area (17) to a sealed exit opening (35) of the housing (13, 15). The noise-sealing of the entrance opening (19) and the exit opening (35) is obtained by means of a rotatably arranged cylindrical friction roller (21) which is located between the incoming and the outgoing portions of the paper strip (9) and which during printing is pulled by the tensile stress in the paper (9) against wall portions (23, 37) on the outer side of the housing (13, 15). The printer of the present invention is advantageously used in those situations in which the process of printing characters and/or the paper transport produce an excessively high noise level.
