P. J. E. Van Dooren 1 PRINTER HEAD ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An electromagnetically actuated, rapidly movable printing hammer having a leaf spring "mid-air" suspension that requires no sliding contact and is thereby subject to little wear. Two solenoid windings may be pro- vided for forward and reverse movement. Thus, if the leaf spring also carries an armature midway in an air gap between windings, hammer speed can be increased further because the spring force goes through zero each time the armature is moved from one of its extreme limits of travel to the other.
