ABSTRACT Printing apparatus comprises in combination, a printwheel which a hub and spokes extending from the hub which carries two or more different sorts of character slugs on each spoke, first drive means for rotating the printwheel which are shifted up or down with the printwheel at the same time, shifting means which shifts up or down the first drive means and the printwheel itself to align selected character slugs at the printing position, and second drive means for driving the shifting means up or down.
