ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A doctor blade assembly for a rotary printing machine has a mounting on the frame of the machine and a plane doctor blade supported by the mounting with its plane radial or nearly so to the cylinder, the blade being movable parallel to its own plane relative to the mounting. The blade has a backing member on its edge remote from the cylinder, and a fluid-filled bag abuts the backing member to urge the blade against the cylinder. The assembly may have its mounting carried on the machine frame by a sliding joint permitting limited to and fro movement tangential to the cylinder, to accommodate small reverse movements of the cylinder.
