In modern day print presses a registration mark is used to monitor paper moving throughout the press. Each print impression is controlled and divided by each registration mark. The registration mark usually appears in the form of a dot or dash one sixteenth to one eighteenth of an inch long. Digitrak is an invention the controls print cutoff. It uses two inputs inorder to accomplish this. The first is a photoeye that monitors the pace of the registration mark on the Web Web- A series of continuous uncut impressions produced by the press. The second is an encoder that is attached to a rotary cutter. Information from these two inputs is processed by Digitrak. By comparing these two inputs Digitrak determines the position of the rotary cutter. If the web mark position is incorrect Digitrak will drive a stepper motor to correct the web mark position. The stepper motor is connected to the web feed roller. The motor will now move the web feed roller in order to compensate for error either by advancing or retarding the web loop to the accurately correct position.
