ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to a kit for detecting the presence of a nucleic acid sequence, such as a gene or a gene fragment, in a composition or a specimen supposed to contain it. The kit comprises a novel probe containing a nucleic acid complementary with the nucleic acid sequence or gene which is sought. The probe bears at least one 7-iodo-N-2-acetylamino-fluorene group covalently fixed at one at least of the bases of this probe. The kit also comprises antibodies which can react with either N-2-(guanosine-8-yl)-acetylamino- fluorene, or antibodies previously prepared against a nucleic acid sequence modified by a N-2-acetylamino-fluorene group. The kit of the present invention is therefore useful for the systematic research of particular nucleotide sequences in a particular biological system, and even more generally, in any preparation formed in vitro .
