The invention relates to a test method for detecting irregularities in the thickness of the walls of inaccessible metal pipes. Alternating electrical currents of different frequencies are conducted through the pipes and the magnetic fields that they generate are measured outside said pipes. The invention also relates to a device, especially a device designed to carry out the inventive test method, comprising a power source that enables the electrical current to pass through the tube, at least one magnetic field probe to measure the magnetic field generated by the alternating electrical current outside the pipe and an evaluation device which can deduce whether an irregularity exists in the thickness of the pipe wall from the magnetic field signal supplied by the magnetic field probe.

L'invention concerne un procédé de vérification pour détecter des irrégularités de l'épaisseur de la paroi de tuyaux métalliques inaccessibles, selon lequel des courants alternatifs électriques de différentes fréquences sont injectés à travers le tuyau vérifié et dont les champs magnétiques produits sont mesurés en dehors du tuyau. L'invention concerne en outre un dispositif servant notamment à mettre ledit procédé de vérification en oeuvre, qui comprend une source de courant pour faire passer le courant alternatif à travers le tuyau, au moins une sonde de champ magnétique pour mesurer le champ magnétique produit par le courant alternatif en dehors du tuyau, ainsi qu'un dispositif d'évaluation qui déduit du signal du champ magnétique émis par la sonde de champ magnétique, la présence d'une irrégularité de l'épaisseur de la paroi.
