ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Equalization of a digital pulse sequence to compensate for intersymbol interference due to precursor and postcursor effects is achieved by assessing the digital pulses and deriving correction signals on the basis of this assessment, the pulses corrected by these signals then being reassessed and recorrected, the process being repeated iteratively to achieve a desired degree of accuracy in the reading of the sequence.
