Abstract of Disclosure The invention concerns a procedure and means for comminuting stumps. At present, the stumps have to be transported mainly as whole stumps to factory plants, whereat the stumps contain earth and stones up to 50%. In the further treatment problems are caused by the separation of earth and stones from the stumps. The object is to provide a procedure and means for comminuting stumps which is suitable to be used at forest working sites mounted on a mobile chassis, for instance on a forest tractor. As taught by the invention, the stumps are fed into a substantially vertical, essentially stationary feed drum (1) upon a bottom (4) rotating about a vertical axis (3) so that the stumps tend to the outer periphery (5) of the drum under centrifugal force action and re- volve along with the bottom, bracing themselves against a counter- member (6) which is fixed with reference to the bottom, and are cut into pieces as they hit against a blade (7) which is fixed with reference to the drum. The comminuted stumps are removed from the feed drum through a tangentially outwardly opening discharge aper- ture (8). The comminuted stumps are preferably conducted from the feed drum to a cleaning drum (10), from there to a sieve (11), the acceptable fraction to a product storage, and the reject to be comminuted again.
