Title: "Procedure for Aligning Sheets ABSTRACT The invention refers to a procedure for aligning sheets as they are continuously conveyed via a feed table to a first uniformly rotating cylinder of a sheet processing machine. In a first feed stage, the sheets conveyed via the feed table in an imbricated arrangement are carried to an alignment area. Here, in a second feed stage, they are subject, in the imbricated position, to lateral alignment as well as preliminary front edge alignment without interrupting the movement in the conveying direction. Finally, in a third feed stage, the conveying speed of the sheets is accelerated from the stream speed to the peripheral speed of the cylinder and fed to the first uniformly rotating cylinder, while being finally aligned at the front markers. The three-stage sheet feed system enables precise sheet feed without interrupting sheet transport at a printing speed which is higher than usual speeds at present. The alignment method and equipment are simple and inexpensively priced.
