Abstract of Disclosure The present invention concerns a procedure for analysing the reciprocating motion of a given object or its motion component transversal to the object's direction of travel, based on the passage time of electromagnetic radiation in the optical range and wherein by a light source, such as a laser or photodiode, a periodic light beam is directed on the object. The problem solutions known in the art are not suitable for flexible and accurate measurement and analysis of small motion amplitudes of reciprocatingly moving objects. In order to dispel these difficulties, the invention is mainly characterized in that the change of the passage times of light pulses that have travelled to the object and been reflected back therefrom, in relation to a given reference value, is transformed into an analog voltage proportional to the change.
