ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method is disclosed for improving the ecological conditions in a thermally or chemically stratified lake or other water basin especially as regards the oxygen content of its waters at greater depth. The method involves conducting the topwater from the same water body or from another source into the sub- water close to the bottom where it exerts a favourable effect on this deep water's oxygen content and also on its temperature in the respect that the density of this water is favourable with a view to keeping it at the desired depth and, furthermore, preventing e.g. undesirable participation of the sediment's capillary water in the oxygen economy. The topwater is propelled, e.g. through a wide tube by energy derived from an external source, or carried from higher altitude by siphon effect, and baffles may be provided at the discharge point to aid the desired distribution. To the topwater being thus conveyed may be adjoined various chemi- cals or other beneficial agents.
