ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides a process for manu- facturing cellulose carbamate fibres or films. In the pro- cess, cellulose and urea are reacted at elevated temperature for producing cellulose carbamate. The cellulose carbamate is dissolved in an alkaline solution for producing a spinn- ing solution, and the spinning solution is spun with the aid of spinnerets in an acid precipitation solution to obtain fibres or films. The cellulose carbamate is, prior to the dissolving in alkali, subjected to a 0.05-10 Mrad radiation dose. Thereafter, the carbamate is dissolved in the alkali, and if needed, after-treated by the aid of mild irradiation. While it is being subjected to irradiation, the cellulose carbamate is in the form of loose fibres or of a web.
