ABSTRACT The invention is a procedure for starting and reversing a gas- turbine-electrical power-plant for an icebreaker, which comprises a light gas-turbine, a synchronous generator, a synchronous or asynchronous propel- ler motor, and switches for travelling ahead and astern. According to the invention, a minimal gas-turbine output for starting, large counter-torques, and braking are predetermined, in that the three-phase windings of the gen- erator and motor are short-circuited with both switches, and the excitation of the generator is adjusted in such a manner that the generator frequency and turbine r.p.m. drop to low values, and that, after the short-circuit is eliminated, the turbine torque is increased by increasing the fuel supply and the generator voltage is adjusted to the value U > UN? where UN is nominal voltage and fN is nominal frequency.
