ABSTRACT The present invention provides an agent for separating plasma or serum from whole blood, compris- ing a layer of glass fibres with an average diameter of 0.2 to 5 µ and a density of 0.1 to 0.5 g./cm3, the volume of the plasma or serum to be separated being at most 50% of the absorption volume of the glass fibre layer. The present invention also provides a process for separating plasma or serum from whole blood, wherein blood is allowed to trickle slowly through a layer of glass fibres with an average diameter of 0.2 to 5 µ and a density of 0.1 to 0.5 g./cm3 and the plasma running off is collected, the volume of the plasma or serum to be separated being at most 50% of the absorption volume of the glass fibre layer.
