Abstract of the Disclosure Described herein are a process for the preparation of pulp out of a lignin-containing cellulose raw-material and a sulfide-sulfite cooking liquor to be used in the process. According to the process, the cellulose raw- material is split into chips, the chips are treated so as to constitute a starting material suitable for cooking, the chips are cooked in an alkaline sulfite- sulfide cooking liquor, which contains 70 to 400 g of sodium sulfite per kg of dry wood, 35 to 110 g of sodium sulfide per kg of dry wood, 20 to 150 g of sodium carbonate per kg of dry wood, as well as the quantity of sodium hydroxide required for raising the pH of the cooking liquor to a value of 9 to 13, and the delignified fibrous material is ground to an appropriate drainability. According to the invention the sodium sulfide is introduced into the cooking liquor as white liquor, and 0.05 to 0.3 % of anthraquinone, based on the quantity of wood, is added to the alkaline sulfite-sulfide cooking liquor in order to accelerate the cooking, to lower the concentration of the cooking chemicals, and to inhibit the formation of thiosulfate.
