ABSTRACT A process for charging a capacitor, so as to achieve a short charging time while avoiding a high charging current pulse, the charging current during the course of the charging being regulated to a value which at least approaches being constant. The time constant of the charging circuit is altered during the charging process. An apparatus to carry out the process contains a controlled resistance arrangement which is dependent upon the charging voltage of the capacitor. Application of the process and of the apparatus, particularly for flash guns with a fast flash series.
