"A PROCESS AND APPARATUS FOR ELECTRO-DECOLORIZING A MOLTEN GLASS MASS CONTAINING CHROMOGENIC AGENTS" ABSTRACT. A process for electro-decolorizing a molten glass mass containing chromogenic agents, comprising: feeding a glass mass or formulation containing chromogenic agents as ions or molecules, to a furnace; introducing at least two electrodes, as an anode and a cathode, in said molten glass mass; and applying an electric voltage and a resulting current through said electrodes to change the redox state of the chromogenic agents contained in the molten glass from a lower valence to a higher valence and viceversa by electrochemical reduction and oxidation, promoting ionic migration of the chromogenic ions to the cathode causing metallic electrodeposition at said cathode and oxidation reactions of any oxidizable species contained in the glass such as the chromogenic molecules, at the anode, producing a decolorized glass mass.
