ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An improved process and apparatus for forming sealed liquid-filled bags. Known methods and form/fill/seal machines are unsuitable for use in producing packages utilized in bag-in-box containers, as the packages do not contain means whereby the liquid in the package may be dispensed. The present invention provides a method of producing and filling liquid-filled packages suitable for use in bag-in-box containers. The process according to the present invention comprises: securing attachment means at spaced intervals along an elongate web of heat sealable plastic material; forming the web into a plurality of bags which are filled with liquid and which are each provided with attachment means; inserting each liquid filled bag into a rigid outer container: and providing each package formed thereby with cooperative means which are constructed to interengage with the attachment means to form a tap means hav- ing manually manipulable means adapted to open and close the tap means whereby liquid may be releasably drained from each package through the tap means by manipulating the manually manipulable means. The apparatus according to the present invention includes attachment means securing means which secure the attachment means at spaced intervals along the web. The attachment means includes a first and a second interlocking means which form a friction fit with each other and with the web when interengaging from opposite sides of the web. The attachment means securing means includes chute means for supply ing the first interlocking means to a pick-up station. A swing- ably mounted mandrel means picks up the first interlocking means at the pick-up station, and transfers same to a second station wherein first interlocking means is opposite the web. Backing block means are disposed on the opposite side of the web from the mandrel for holding the second interlocking means opposite the web and the first interlocking means. The mandrel means is actuated so as to force the first and second interlocking means into engagement with each other while on opposite sides of the web. Forming means form a heat sealed open ended bag from lengths of the web having attachment means secured thereto. Means fill the open ended bags with liquid, and means heat seal the liquid-filled open ended bags to form substantially air-impervious liquid-filled dispenser bags each having attach- ment means attached thereto.
