Process and apparatus for metered dilution of fibrous material suspension in an apparatus including a material intake. The process includes treating a portion of backwater drained from the fibrous material suspension in a filter device, drawing off a cloudy filtrate arising in the filter device, forming diluting water from the cloudy filtrate, and metering the diluting water into the fibrous material suspension at a plurality of metering points in the material intake. The apparatus includes a material intake, a plurality of metering points coupled to the material intake, a fibrous material suspension supply coupled to the material intake, and a filter device coupled to receive a portion of backwater drained from the fibrous material suspension. In this manner, a cloudy filtrate is produced. The apparatus also includes a device to supply the cloudy filtrate to the plurality of metering points as diluting water.
