An improved method for prilling asphalt and other viscous and sticky materials which includes the additional step of spraying the falling prills with a heated coating substance in a coating chamber before said prills are collected. An apparatus for prilling includes a coating chamber having a top opening, an upright wall and spray nozzles, mounted on the interior periphery of the upright wall at different heights to spray the falling prills with a heated coating substance. A spray collection means, for collecting spray which has not coated the prills includes heating the upright walls of the coating chamber, outwardly flaring the bottom portion thereof, and providing a trough beneath the bottom portion of the upright wall to collect a runoff of the coating substance so that it may be recirculated back to the spray nozzles.
