In a process for producing a folded printed product which includes at least one folded sheet, a number of printed webs from which the sheets are formed by cutting are passed prior to said cutting operation in mutually superposed relationship through an electrostatic high-voltage field region, to apply electrical charges to the at least one web, the number of printed webs corresponding to the number of sheets forming the printed product. For easier opening of the printed product along a predeterminable plane, there is provided a potential pattern which is of the same sign from a plane which is in the interior of the printed product and which is parallel to the folding plane on both sides in an outward direction. In that way a quantity of charge of the same sign and of at least substantially the same magnitude is applied to each of the two side portions of the printed product to be produced, said side portions being disposed on respective sides of said internally disposed plane.
