The invention relates to a process for producing a laminate containing a metal foil strip and a plastic film strip, in which the two strips respectively exhibit stamping structures which are repeated at regular inter- vals in the longitudinal direction of the strips and are disposed at contiguous points in the laminate, a pre- stamped strip and the second strip being continuously joined together from respectively one end. In order to define a process by which a pre-stamped plastic film tape can be laminated together with a pre-stamped metal foil tape such that, with the least possible complexity, the mismatch between the structures of the two tapes can be kept as small as possible, after the strips have been merged, the position of position markings of the stamping structures, bearing against the second strip, of the pre- stamped strip are successively scanned and, once a predetermined position of the position markings has been reached, a stamping structure is introduced into that region of the second strip situated in front of the site of the joining together, at a distance from the predeter- mined position corresponding to an integral multiple of the interval at which the stamping structures of the metal strip are repeated. The invention likewise relates to an apparatus for carrying out the process.
