A process and apparatus are described for manufacturing particle stabilized foamed metal slabs. A foam (25) is first formed in a foaming chamber (20) by heating a composite of a metal matrix and finely divided solid stabilizer panicles above the solidus temperature of the metal matrix and discharging gas bubbles into the molten metal composite below the surface thereof to thereby form a stabilized liquid foam on the surface of the molten metal composite. The stabilized liquid foam (25) is continuously drawn off the surface of the molten metal composite and is solidified into a shaped foam product while being continuously drawn off.
Procédé et dispositif utilisés pour fabriquer des feuilles métalliques à partir de mousse stabilisée de particules. Une mousse (25) est d'abord constituée dans une chambre de moussage (20) en chauffant un composite d'une matrice métallique et des particules solides finement divisées de stabilisant au-dessus de la température dite << Liquidus >> de la matrice métallique et en introduisant des bulles de gaz dans le composite métallique fondu au-dessous de sa surface pour constituer ainsi une mousse liquide stabilisée sur la surface du composite métallique fondu. La mousse liquide stabilisée (25) est retirée de manière continue de la surface du composite métallique fondu et est solidifiée en un produit en mousse profilé pendant son retrait continu.
