Abstract of the Disclosure The invention procides a process for regenerating contaminated sulphuric acid using indirect heating in apparatus of, or at least coated with, enamel, characterised in that the contami- nated acid, having an input concentration of from 90 to 98.3% by weight of H2S04, is introduced into a purification unit where it is concentrated in a heating zone at temperatures of from 140 to 330°C to a level of at least 96% by weight of H2S04, is subsequently delivered first to a reaction zone and then to an after-reaction zone in which a temperature of up to 330& is maintained, and the acid is purified in the purification unit as a whole either at normal pressure or under reduced pressure and an apparatus for carrying out the process described above.
