The invention relates to a process for working a workpiece held between a counterholder and a guide by a clamping force by forming a profile, e.g. precision toothing, in a surface of the workpiece by means of a forming element, the forming element being guided toward the surface of the workpiece at an acute angle to the clamping force or with a rotary/thrust movement.
