The invention relates to a process for formation of carbon nanotubes. The process comprises laser ablation of a bulk metal catalyst within a hydrocarbon solution to produce a feedstock containing metal catalyst nanoparticles. The feedstock is atomizing to form a feedstock aerosol. The aerosol is heated to form naotubes. An apparatus for forming carbon nanotubes is also disclosed. Nanoparticles formed in the feedstock according to the invention can be controlled to achieve a narrow size distribution, which ultimately allows for good control over size and chirality of the nanotubes formed.
La présente invention concerne un procédé pour produire des nanotubes de carbone. Ce procédé consiste à réaliser une ablation par laser d'un catalyseur métallique en masse dans une solution d'hydrocarbure, afin de produire une charge d'alimentation qui contient des nanoparticules de catalyseur métallique, puis à atomiser cette charge d'alimentation, afin de former un aérosol de charge d'alimentation. Cet aérosol est chauffé, afin de former des nanotubes. La présente invention concerne également un appareil pour produire des nanotubes de carbone. Les nanoparticules formées dans la charge d'alimentation selon cette invention peuvent être commandées de façon à obtenir une distribution étroite des tailles, ce qui permet finalement de commander la taille et la chiralité des nanotubes ainsi produits.
