A process for the drying of yellowcake, the yellowcake initially being in the form of a low solids content, uranium rich feed slurry, the process including the stages of : a. dewatering the feed slurry to produce a first dewatered solids cake with a solids content higher than the feed slurry; b. re-slurrying the first dewatered solids cake with sufficient water to dissolve at least some impurities and to produce an intermediate slurry with a solids content lower than the first dewatered solids cake; c. dewatering the intermediate slurry to produce a second dewatered solids cake with a solids content higher than the feed slurry; and d. drying the second dewatered solids cake to produce dried yellowcake.

L'invention porte sur un procédé pour le séchage de gâteau jaune, le gâteau jaune étant initialement sous la forme d'une bouillie d'alimentation riche en uranium, à faible teneur en matières solides. Le procédé comprend les stades consistant à : a. déshydrater la bouillie d'alimentation pour obtenir un premier gâteau déshydraté de matières solides ayant une teneur en matières solides supérieure à la bouillie d'alimentation ; b. remettre en bouillie le premier gâteau déshydraté de matières solides avec suffisamment d'eau pour dissoudre au moins une partie des impuretés et pour obtenir une bouillie intermédiaire ayant une teneur en matières solides inférieure au premier gâteau déshydraté de matières solides; c. déshydrater la bouillie intermédiaire pour obtenir un second gâteau déshydraté de matières solides avec une teneur en matières solides supérieure à la bouillie d'alimentation ; et d. sécher le second gâteau déshydraté de matières solides pour obtenir un gâteau jaune séché.
