ABSTRACT The invention relates to a process for the electromagnetic stirring of metal melts in a continuous casting chill mould, wherein the application of a magnetic field initiates in the melt forces which set the melt in rotation in horizontal planes. The characterizing feature of the invention is that the flow of current to the coils generating the magnetic field is alternated in a cycle such that the surface of the bath remains unmoved.
