The invention relates to a method for electronically recording an image of the surface of an object which can be represented as a function G(x, y), wherein x and y represent the coordinates of a respective spot image of the image (50, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55) and G represents its halftone value. According to said method, the object is recorded sequentially over various times ti, with ti+ 1>ti being recorded from various perspectives as a function Gi so as to produce the entire image G like when a finger (8) is rolled off for recording a fingerprint from the individual images Gi(x, y). Partial zones are cut out from the individual images and are joined depending on the perspective from which they have been recorded. A curved intersection line (76) is determined to determine the partial zones of every image except the first image Gi by comparing the image content of the previously recorded or joined image Gi-1. Said intersection line delimits the partial zone of the image (50, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55) Gi-1 and the corresponding partial zone of image Gi is joined at this intersection line (76) to produce the entire image G(x, y). Said intersection line (76) is determined by establishing a similitude function Gc(x, y) between the images Gi and Gi-1. Said function becomes extremal at identical halftone values at identical image spot coordinates or also including their surroundings. Said intersection line (76) is represented by the course of a curve y(x) which intersects at least one extreme of highest similitude of the similitude function Gc(x, y).
