ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention is utilized to destroy micro- organisms and harmful insects in disposable health care articles or foodstuffs. The object of the invention is the improved exploitation of gamma and X-rays with good dosage uniformity. The object of the invention is accomplished in that the objects to be irradiated (2) are positioned near (3) as well as at a distance (4) from the source of radiation during irradiation. The positions are selected in such a manner that the objects to be irradiated which are positioned near the source of radiation partially shield the peripheral area of the objects to be irradiated which are positioned at a distance from the radiation source. The objects to be irradiated are preferably irradiated from four sides in each position.
