ABSTRACT A process and apparatus for manufacturing flat shaped articles made of individual fibers such as paper, woven fabric, knitted fabric and non-woven fabric impregnated with an aqueous heat-coagulatable polymeric binder dispersion is disclosed. The binder coagulates at a temperature substantially below 100°C. and the method includes impinging live steam on the major sur- faces of the article to suddenly coagulate the binder, thereby fixing its position within the fabric and preventing its migration to the fabric's surfaces. One or more adjustable position steam nozzles are used for this purpose.
