PRECIS DE LA DIVULGATION: Dans une cuve d'électrolyse comportant deux com- partiments qui contiennent chacun un électrolyte dis- tinct et dont le fond est couvert d'une nappe de mercure jouant le rôle d'une électrode bipolaire, le mercure dissout cathodiquement le zinc des déchets à traiter dans le premier compartiment et libère anodiquement le zinc dissous dans le second compartiment pour produire un dépôt cathodique de zinc pur. L'électrode bipolaire de mercure sert à la fois de barrière mécanique et de barrière électrochimique entre les électrolytes.
