ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process and apparatus for producing embossed lines which are without corrugations and can be applied to polyolefine foils. The foil is passed between a heated embossing tool and a perforated platen, the embossing tool pressing the foil onto the perforated platen by means of embossing electrodes. The depth of penetration thereof into the foil amounts to at least 40% of the thickness thereof. The foil is held flat upon the perforated platen by means of a vacuum in the latter throughout the embossing and cooling cycles.
