A process for the conversion of hydrocarbons to hydrogen and one or more oxides of carbon, comprising contacting the hydrocarbon with steam and/or oxygen in the presence of a spinel-phase crystalline catalyst comprising a catalytically active metal. There is also described a method for making a catalyst suitable for the conversion of hydrocarbons to hydrogen and one or more oxides of carbon comprising adding a precipitant to a solution or suspension of a refractory oxide or precursor thereof and a catalyst metal-containing compound to form a precipitate which is calcined in an oxygen-containing atmosphere to produce a crystalline phase with a high dispersion of catalyst metal. There is further described a crystalline catalyst comprising the elements nickel, magnesium, aluminium and a lanthanide element, in which the crystalline phase is a spinel phase.
L'invention porte sur un processus de conversion d'hydrocarbures en hydrogène et en un ou plusieurs oxydes de carbone, consistant à mettre en contact un hydrocarbure avec de la vapeur et/ou de l'oxygène en présence d'un catalyseur cristallin à phase de spinelle comprenant un métal à action catalytique. L'invention porte également sur une méthode d'élaboration d'un catalyseur de conversion d'hydrocarbures en l'hydrogène et en un ou plusieurs oxydes de carbone consistant à ajouter un précipitant à une solution ou suspension d'oxyde réfractaire ou de son précurseur et un composé contenant un métal catalyseur, pour former un précipité qui est calciné dans une atmosphère contenant de l'oxygène pour produire une phase cristalline avec une forte dispersion de métal catalyseur. L'invention porte en outre sur un catalyseur cristallin comprenant du nickel du magnésium, de l'aluminium et un lanthanide, et dans lequel la phase cristalline est une phase de spinelle.
