PRECIS DE LA DIVULGATION: L'invention a pour objet un procédé de production de polysulfures organiques du type R-Sn-R, où R est un groupe hydrocarboné et n un nombre de 2 à 8 par chauffage d'un ou de plusieurs mercaptans avec du soufre, en présence d'un catalyseur constitué par la combinaison d'un mercaptan avec un oxyde d'alcène et une base alcaline. L'utilisation de ce nouveau catalyseur permet la production régulière, en continu, sans solvant, avec de très bons rendements, de polysulfures de bonne pureté, sans odeur gênante, sans turbidité ni couleur indésirable et avec un très faible taux de -SH résiduel.
