The invention includes a process and components for making stamping dies from a set of mass produced metal blocks, each machined to size, each with dowel, counter bored and tapped holes machined along an Upper and Lower Machining Line. Blocks are of same thickness and width. Each successive block of a set increases in length by the length of the shortest block of the set. Individual blocks can be mounted directly onto the die-set. Blocks can also be assembled together. Machining pattern of holes in each block is such that when dowel holes align, counter bores of one block align with tapped holes of joining block. All blocks are ready for final custom machining. A set of blocks is designed to accommodate strip widths within a given range. The result is a reduction in die-making time and cost.
