ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The instant invention relates to the use of sterically hindered amines in processes for removing carbon dioxide from gaseous streams wherein said process comprises contacting said gas stream with a solution contacting said sterically hindered amine at conditions whereby said carbon dioxide is absorbed in said solution. The solution may be aqueous or nonaqueous and may comprises other compounds which can promote the absorption of carbon dioxide in the solution.
