In order to optimize the use of amplification equipment (OA1, OA2) in a device for demapping channels from a wavelength multiplex (E), the following successive operations are performed: an initial amplification (OA1) with an initial gain, wavelength selection, and a second amplification (OA2) with a second gain. The first and second gains ensure that the optical output signal (5) has both a fixed noise to signal ratio and a set optical power. Applicable specifically to optical transmission networks.
