A process and apparatus for applying a sealing coat on a surface. The process uses the apparatus to spread a liquid bituminous binder course on the surface, to spread a layer of granular material, consisting of grits coated with a pasty mixture of asphalt and noncohesive material, over the liquid bituminous binder course, and to compact the layer of granular material into the liquid bituminous binder course. The process is implemented in stages in a single direction of movement within a five-second or shorter period of time, for any given portion of the sealing coat, at a rate of advancement of at least 10 metres per minute. The total amount of asphalt contained in the binder course of the sealing coat is no less than 11% and no more than 89% by weight.
Le procédé et le dispositif servent à réaliser un enduit superficiel sur une surface. Le procédé pratique le dispositif consiste à répandre une couche de liant bitumineux liquide sur la surface, à répandre une couche de granulats, comprenant des gravillons recouverts par un mélange à consistance pâteuse de bitume et de matériau pulvérulent, sur la couche de liant bitumineux liquide, et à compacter la couche de granulats contre la couche de liant bitumineux liquide. Les étapes du procédé sont réalisées successivement le long d'une direction de déplacement à l'intérieur d'une durée de 5 secondes ou moins pour toute portion donnée de l'enduit superficiel, et à un taux d'avancement d'au moins dix mètres par minute. La couche de liant contient au moins 11% et pas plus de 89% par poids d'une quantité totale de bitume présente dans l'enduit superficiel.
