To detect the frequency error of a carrier modulated in MDP-M phase, we reduce the phase ~(n) of samples to the interval [-.pi., +.pi.[; calculate ~(n) = mod(~(n), 2.pi./M); calculate d(n) = mod(~(n)-~(n-1), 2.pi./M); calculate p'(n) = mod(d(n)=p(n-1), 2.pi./M), where p(n) = mod(p*(n),2.pi./M), where p*(n) is obtained by subtracting from p'(n) the standard output; we calculate d'(n) = p'(n)-p(n-1); define a "tri" parameter, by tri = 1 if d'(n) < S and tri = .beta. if d'(n) ~S, where S is a threshold; calculate det_ -tri(n) = .alpha..p'(n).tri, det_tri(n) representing the standard output, representing the carrier frequency error.
