ABSTRACT A process for manufacturing structural members made of fibre composites which have a tubular region and a plane flange at either end of the region is disclosed. The process comprises the following steps: on a winding core determining the inner contour of the tubular region, applying a winding comprising fibre strands which cross one another at an angle to the axis of the core; at the ends of the tubular region causing conical widening of the tubular region by applying the strands over spreader elements lying at a distance from the core; on completion of the winding, placing onto the tubular region of the winding a form tool which embraces the tubular region and is provided at both ends with a face determining the inside of said plane flanges, said form tool having a rounded edge between the tubular region and said face; and applying pressure by an elastic medium to the conical regions of the winding, prior to being applied onto the faces of the mould, in the region of the rounded edges to cause the winding to lie adjacent to the faces of the form tool.
