The present invention pertains to the problem of chopping, drying and compressing into pellets - which shall be used especially as a fuel - freshly harvested biomass, especially cereal plants, in one operation. The chopped stalk material is moved forward for this purpose according to the present invention over a broad surface in a thin layer (32) in the manner of an accordion, while a warm air flow passes through it, before the stalk material is fed into the intake wedge of a pelletizing device (15). Screw conveyor groups (11, 12, 13) arranged at different levels are preferably used as the conveying means, and their direction of conveyance (23) is at right angles to the direction of travel (24) of the harvester (1), whereas the gaseous heating medium flows through the layers (32) being conveyed vertically (29) from bottom to top.
La présente invention traite du problème de réaliser, si possible en une seule opération, la fragmentation, le séchage et le compactage en boulettes d'une biomasse fraîchement fauchée, en particulier des céréales, ces boulettes devant être utilisées en particulier comme combustible. A cet effet, on fait progresser en accordéon et en une couche mince (32) sur une grande surface le chaume broyé dans lequel on fait passer un flux d'air chaud avant qu'il entre dans le gousset d'entrée du dispositif de transformation en boulettes (15). On utilise comme moyens de transport de préférence des groupes de vis transporteuses disposées par étages (11, 12, 13) dont le sens de transport (23) est perpendiculaire au sens de marche (24) d'une moissonneuse (1), tandis que le fluide chauffant gazeux s'écoule verticalement (29) de bas en haut à travers les couches transportées (32).
