La présente invention concerne un procédé et un dispositif pour la fabrication de gaz de synthèse. Le réacteur selon l'invention comporte à l'intérieur d'une même enveloppe : une chambre de combustion non catalytique comportant au moins un organe d'injection de combustible et au moins un organe d'injection de comburant afin de réaliser une combustion partielle dans ladite chambre dite "à temps de séjour suffisant", et au moins un lit catalytique dans lequel débouchent les gaz issus de la chambre de combustion, et comportant en outre au moins un organe d'injection de comburant supplémentaire et au moins un organe d'injection de combustible. Le réacteur et le procédé selon l'invention peuvent être appliqués à toute fabrication chimique mettant en oeuvre du gaz de synthèse.
