ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In the process of the invention for the contactless testing of the surface or inner structure of various test pieces, the test piece (1) is illuminated and crossed by a light beam (3). The light from the beam (3) which is reflected or scattered from or allowed through by the test piece (1) is detected and compared with predetermined values. The device for implementing the process has a linear light source (2) to generate a continuous light beam (3) and at least one linear opto-electronic converter arrangement (4,6) to detect reflected, scattered or through-going light.
