Abstract Annular or tubular metallic working pieces are formed by forming a metal strip and winding the strip in layers and fusing them into the desired shape, the wall thickness of the working piece being greater than the thickness of the metal strip, with the temperature of the strip regulated by the addition or removal of heat, and an apparatus is provided for the manufacture of such annular or tube-shaped metallic working pieces comprising a feed device for the metal strip which leads into a winding device having at least one pair of rolls, one of which rolls is powered and one of which is supported and mobile against the other.
