ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An apparatus and a process for coating a web, particularly a paper or a board web, with a liquid in which the metering and the distribution of the coating liquid is carried out in a single step by contacting the web with a rotating roll. The roll is received in a feed chamber containing the li- quid which is applied to the roll by being immersed in it and the quantity of liquid applied from the roll to the web is metered by means of a doctor blade cooperating with the roll. A second doctor blade is provided on the opposite side of the roll for collecting and separating liquid, and return- ing it for reuse.
