Selon ce procédé, on ajoute à l'eau transportée la quantité de chaux propre à lui conférer des propriétés incrustantes. Avant d'être introduite dans le saturateur, l'eau prélevée dans la canalisation est mélangée dans un décarbonateur à une solution dépourvue de CO2 total et chargée de chaux provenant du saturateur, de façon à permettre l'élimination quasi-complète du CO2 total dans le décarbonateur par précipitation de CaCO3. Utilisation notamment pour protéger contre la corrosion les parois intérieures en métaux ferreux ou à base de ciment des canalisations d'eau.
